Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Take the safari bus (included with ticket) before walking the park. Predators are most active in the cool morning and you will see the best action.

2

The golden monkey area is fantastic. They are endemic to this region and the Qinling subspecies has the most beautiful golden fur.

3

Bring your own food. The park restaurants are limited and mediocre. There are plenty of picnic tables available.

4

Xi'an gets cold even in spring. Bring layers even if the morning feels warm. The mountain air shifts fast.

5

Combine with a trip to the Tang Dynasty Gardens on your way back, a lovely park with Tang-style architecture that kids can run around in.

A Real Parent's Story

A tiger yawned right next to our safari bus window

This massive Siberian tiger stretched, yawned, and flopped down two feet from my daughter's window. She whispered that he is just a big cat. She was not wrong.

The safari bus is a real beast with bars on the windows and thick steel doors. But when a tiger flopped down right next to the bus and yawned, showing teeth longer than my hand, my 6-year-old just said he is sleepy like my cat. The zoo is a bit rough around the edges in the best authentic way, but the animals look healthy and have huge enclosures. My daughter still draws that tiger.
