Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Arrive by 9 AM when artisans start work. Watching tapa cloth beaten from bark is hypnotic.

2

The lagoon edge is unfenced in spots. Keep toddlers close near the water.

3

Bring cash — souvenir shop is cash-only. Handmade tapa cloth from $5 pa'anga.

4

The garden has labeled medicinal plants. Make a game: 'find the nonu tree' with older kids.

5

Combine with the nearby Royal Palace (view from outside) for a quick photo op.

A Real Parent's Story

He was more interested in the chickens than the artifacts

I worried it would be too educational for a 3-year-old. It wasn't. The grounds are open and grassy. He ran around the replica village like a playground. The carved canoes were a hit. And the chickens — so many chickens. Perfect balance.
