Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

The zoo itself is small (30 min to walk through). Make it a park day — combine with the lake and playground for a proper outing.

2

Boat rentals on the Artificial Lake cost 5 EUR for 30 minutes — pedal boats are a hit with kids 3-10.

3

The renovated section (entrance fee 200 LEK) is better than the free section. Pay the extra for cleaner enclosures and the petting zoo.

4

Bring snacks and water — the zoo itself has no cafe, but the lakeside restaurants a 2-min walk away are excellent and kid-friendly.

5

This isn’t a destination zoo — it’s a local park with animals. Keep expectations realistic and your kids will love the relaxed vibe.

A Real Parent's Story

We turned it into a lake day and it was perfect

The zoo took us 20 minutes. But the pedal boats? 45 minutes of pure joy. My 4-year-old ‘navigated’ while I pedaled. We fed ducks, had ice cream by the lake, and watched locals playing volleyball. Not a bad afternoon.

If you visit Tirana Zoo expecting a modern facility, you’ll be disappointed. But if you treat it as ‘park with bonus animals,’ it’s a lovely afternoon. The bear enclosure was sad (small, concrete) but the new section with goats and deer is much better. The Grand Park setting is genuinely lovely — huge trees, lake views, and a relaxed Balkan vibe. The bike rental (2 EUR/hour) was the highlight for our kids.
