Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Arrive right at 9:30 AM when it opens. The tunnel walkway is uncrowded until 11 AM and you get photos without strangers in them.

2

The Dugong show at 11:30 is hilarious and educational — sit in the front row if your kid is brave enough for a splash.

3

Book the Penguin Pass add-on. It is $15 extra but you get to feed penguins and it makes the whole trip unforgettable.

4

Combine with Darling Harbour activities across the street — the playground and paddle boats are free afterwards.

5

The touch pools get slimy by mid-afternoon. Visit them in the first hour for the best experience.

A Real Parent's Story

My 7-year-old corrected the tour guide on the shark trivia

He has been obsessed with sharks since age 4. When the guide said the grey nurse shark lays eggs, our son corrected her — and she thanked him. He wore that moment like a badge for weeks.

We are from Brisbane so Sydney Aquarium was a splurge trip. Our older son is a shark encyclopedia. When the guide mentioned grey nurse sharks lay eggs, he politely said actually they are ovoviviparous — the eggs hatch inside. The guide paused, said he was right, and gave him a junior ranger badge on the spot. He has not stopped smiling.
