Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Check the 'SAMily' schedule online. Weekend workshops (10 AM-12 PM) are free but capped at 20 kids. Arrive 20 minutes early.

2

The Glass Hall on Level 2 has rotating interactive installations — kids can touch, climb, and rearrange the art. It is the main draw for under-8s.

3

The cafe has a surprisingly good kids menu ($8 for a bento set with fruit, sandwich and juice). Way better value than mall food courts.

4

Skip the 3rd floor gallery if your kids are under 6. The conceptual art pieces are less engaging for little ones and they will get bored fast.

5

The gift shop sells affordable art kits ($5-12) that make great souvenirs. Let your kid pick one and they will have an afternoon activity.

A Real Parent's Story

She made a 'masterpiece' that's still on our fridge

The free art workshop had our 3-year-old finger-painting what she called 'a dragon eating a rainbow.' It's abstract chaos. We framed it.

We'd dragged our daughter through two 'proper' museums where she touched nothing and whined constantly. SAM was different within minutes of entering. A volunteer handed her a smock and pointed her to a table with paints, clay, and recycled materials. She spent 90 minutes making something indescribable — part octopus, part spaceship, entirely her. A staff member even hung it on the 'young artist wall.' Best museum experience of our lives.
