Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Rent a 4-person surrey bike (12 euros/hr) from Pincio entrance. Best way to cover the huge park with tired kids.

2

La Piccola Roma playground near the lake has miniature Colosseum and Trevi structures for climbing. Ages 3-8 love it.

3

Lake rowboats are 15 euros for 30 min. Go before 11AM. Kids under 5 can sit on laps and steer.

4

Pincio Terrace is the best family photo backdrop — Spanish Steps and Vatican visible. Go 45 min before sunset.

5

Bring snacks from Conad supermarket on Via Flaminia. Park kiosks are expensive.

A Real Parent's Story

My 4-year-old drove a surrey and nearly hit a fountain

We rented a family surrey. Our son insisted on steering. We nearly crashed into a 16th-century fountain.

Villa Borghese is a masterpiece. Wide gravel paths, ancient trees, fountains around every corner. Our 4-year-old demanded the surrey steering wheel and immediately aimed at a fountain. We swerved, laughed, and cruised through pine groves. Stopped at the lake for rowboats, playground, ended at Pincio for sunset. Cheapest day in Rome, favorite by far.
