Tennoji Zoo gets a bad rap because it's old (1915). But recent renovations have transformed it. The old concrete cages are gone. The koalas are genuinely happy — I've never seen them so active. The playground in Tennoji Park is enormous and shaded, so we spent as much time there as at the zoo.
