A Real Parent's Story

Watching rhinos drink at midnight with my 8-year-old

We wrapped in blankets at the floodlit waterhole near our lodge. At 11 PM, a black rhino and her calf walked right up. My son whispered Is this a dream? I said I think we're both having the same one.

The floodlit waterhole at Okaukuejo is the best family experience in Namibia. At midnight, a black rhino and her baby wandered in. My son had been begging to see a rhino all trip. We sat there for an hour, whispering. He fell asleep in my lap at 1 AM, smiling. Worth every cent of the trip.
