Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

The adventure playground is built into the hillside with rope bridges and slides — save it for the end of your visit or your kids won’t want to see any animals.

2

Seal feeding is at 11 AM and 3 PM — the underwater viewing window lets kids see them zoom past at eye level.

3

The zoo is small but hilly. If you have a stroller, use the upper entrance (near the cafe) to avoid the steepest climb.

4

Pack a picnic — the forest setting has lovely shaded benches and the cafe options are limited.

5

The rope course and climbing wall (extra 3 EUR) near the playground is worth it for kids 5+ with energy to burn.

A Real Parent's Story

Seals at eye level made her day

My 3-year-old pressed her face against the underwater viewing window. A seal swam right up, stopped, and stared back at her. They had a ‘conversation’ for 5 minutes — bubbles, head tilts, the works. She named it Sparkle.

Ljubljana Zoo is small, and that’s its superpower. No crowds, no queues, no sensory overload. My daughter could take her time at each animal without being pushed along. The wolf enclosure is huge and natural. The playground is genuinely fun — not a sad set of swings, but an actual wooden castle with slides. We spent 3 happy hours and finished with ice cream at the hilltop cafe overlooking the city.
