A Real Parent's Story

Climbing into people's homes made history click for my kids

My daughter crawled through a Bahnar longhouse and saw a jar of fermented rice wine. She didn't just learn about culture - she lived it.

Museums in Hanoi can be tough for kids - lots of artifacts behind glass. The Ethnology Museum is the opposite. The outdoor area has full-scale houses from Vietnam's different ethnic groups that you can actually walk through. My kids ran through a H'mong wooden house, climbed stairs in a Tay stilt house, and sat in a traditional boat. Inside the main building, the exhibits are well-presented with enough color and variety to keep attention. We spent 2.5 hours and only left because we were hungry.
