Tips & Tricks from Real Parents
Arrive at 8 AM opening — the animals are most active in the morning before the heat sets in.
The toy train ride (20 BDT per person) is a hit with kids under 8 — it loops through the botanical garden section.
Don't skip the aquarium section — the giant freshwater fish from the Brahmaputra are mesmerizing for kids.
Bring your own lunch — the canteen is basic and options are limited for picky eaters.
Hire a cycle rickshaw at the gate for elderly family members or tired toddlers — the zoo is spread out.

A Real Parent's Story
The rhino that yawned and made my day
“We stood in front of the rhino enclosure for 20 minutes waiting for it to move. It finally yawned. My son considered it a triumph.”
We'd built up the one-horned rhino as the main event. When we got to the enclosure, the rhino was just lying there. Not moving. For 20 minutes. My 6-year-old stood there, completely still, waiting. Other kids ran past to see the tigers, but he was committed. Finally, the rhino opened its mouth in a massive yawn. My son pumped his fist in the air like we'd won the World Cup. Sometimes patience really does pay off.
