Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Hire a guide at the visitor center ($15 for a 1-hour walk). They'll spot monkeys, birds, and plants you'd walk right past.

2

The Seven Sisters Falls hike is 45 minutes one way and moderate. Kids 6+ can handle it with good shoes. Skip it with toddlers.

3

Bring rain jackets even on sunny days. The rainforest creates its own weather and sudden showers are common.

4

Stop at the visitor center first for trail maps and bug spray. They rent hiking sticks for $1 which kids love.

5

Feed the Mona monkeys only the fruit provided by guides. Packaged snacks are bad for them and aggressive begging behavior has been an issue.

A Real Parent's Story

A monkey stole her granola bar and she laughed instead of cried

A Mona monkey jumped onto our trail, stared at my 6-year-old, and gently took the granola bar from her hand. She was so shocked she just giggled. The guide explained he was a local named George who knew which hikers carried snacks. My daughter felt like she'd met a celebrity.

Grand Etang is the real Grenada - no resorts, no beaches, just pure tropical rainforest. The crater lake at the top is eerily beautiful, surrounded by mist. Our guide pointed out nutmeg trees, wild mangoes, and monkeys hiding in the canopy. The hike to Seven Sisters Falls was muddy and tiring but the waterfall pool at the end was worth every step.
