Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Start at the monk's trail gate (CHP entrance) - it's the easier, shaded route perfect for kids, not the 306-step staircase.

2

Bring at least 1L of water per person; there are vendors at Wat Pha Lat but nothing on the trail itself.

3

Take it slow - the trail has roots and rocks that little feet need to navigate. Plan 1-1.5 hours up, 45 min down.

4

Watch for monkeys near Wat Pha Lat - don't let kids carry snacks in open bags.

A Real Parent's Story

The jungle walk that turned my city kids into explorers

My 7-year-old spotted a monitor lizard on the trail and thought he was Indiana Jones. The temple at the end was a magical reward.

I was nervous about a jungle hike with kids in Chiang Mai's heat, but the monk's trail to Wat Pha Lat was perfect. The path is shaded by enormous trees and feels like a real jungle adventure without being dangerous. We saw butterflies, a monitor lizard, colorful birds, and giant millipedes. Wat Pha Lat is breathtaking - a hidden temple with Buddha statues draped in moss, waterfalls, and a small meditation cave. My kids felt like they'd discovered a secret. We sat by the waterfall and ate the bananas we'd brought. Total cost: 0 THB.
