Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Check the webcam before you go -- the cableway closes on short notice due to wind.

2

Book tickets online 24+ hours in advance. Walk-up queue can be 90+ minutes.

3

Bring jackets -- it's often 10C colder at the top, even in summer.

4

Don't feed the dassies (rock hyraxes). They're wild and they bite.

5

The Summit Circle is a flat 45-min paved walk with incredible views -- no hiking boots needed.

A Real Parent's Story

The revolving floor made my 3-year-old's jaw drop

As the cable car rotated, my 3-year-old watched the whole city spin. She said 'we're in a flying house.' Worth the entire 12-hour flight from Doha.

The cable ride is surprisingly smooth and the revolving floor is genius -- the car rotates 360 degrees during the 5-min ascent so everyone sees everything. At the top we walked the Platteklip Gorge trail (just the first 200m) and the dassies stole our snacks. Go at 3 PM for golden hour.
