Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Entry is about €5 for adults and €3 for kids — one of the cheapest zoo experiences in Europe with a surprisingly good animal collection.

2

Combine with Kalemegdan Park and Fortress. The zoo is literally inside the fortress grounds and the park has massive playgrounds and river views.

3

The white lions are the star attraction. Their feeding time is at 11:30 AM — arrive 10 minutes early for a good spot.

4

Skip the reptile house if your kids are under 6. It's dark, musty, and the snakes behind old glass can be unsettling.

5

Bring Serbian dinar in cash. Card payment works sometimes but not reliably.

6

The zoo is compact (90 minutes to cover everything). Perfect for a morning activity before afternoon naps.

A Real Parent's Story

The white lion that yawned right on cue

My 3-year-old was getting cranky and we were about to leave when the male white lion stood up, stretched, and let out a massive yawn directly facing us. My son froze, then whispered 'he's saying hello.' We stayed another hour.

Belgrade Zoo gets mixed reviews online but we loved it. Yes, some enclosures are old. But the animals look healthy and the keepers clearly care. The children's farm was the real highlight — my son bottle-fed a baby goat. He still talks about it. The zoo isn't fancy. It's genuine. And at these prices, it's hard to complain.
