Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Go between November and March. Summer temperatures make outdoor walking unbearable and many animals retreat to shaded enclosures.

2

The Arabian oryx enclosure is the park's crown jewel - these majestic white antelopes are critically endangered and Bahrain has one of the most successful breeding programmes worldwide.

3

Rent a golf cart (BD 10) for the reserve section. Walking the full 4 km loop with kids in the heat is exhausting.

4

The morning feeding session at 10 AM is the best time to see the big cats active and alert.

5

Bring water and snacks. The cafe is basic and closes early (around 2 PM).

6

The park is about 25 minutes from central Manama by car. No public transport reaches it - you need a taxi or rental car.

A Real Parent's Story

The oryx walked right up to our car window

We were driving through the reserve section when a herd of Arabian oryx surrounded our car. Our 6-year-old was eye-to-eye with one through the window.

Al Areen is the reason we moved to Bahrain. The reserve section lets you drive slowly through the habitats and the animals come right up to the car. The Arabian oryx are stunning - pure white with elegant horns. Our daughter sat frozen for 10 minutes as a young oryx stood beside her window. The zoo section has big cats and a lovely aviary. Allow 3-4 hours to see everything.
