Tips & Tricks from Real Parents
The bird show at 11:30 AM is magnificent — eagles, owls, and falcons fly directly over your head. Arrive 15 minutes early for front-row seats.
Bring your own lunch. The on-site restaurant is expensive (€12 for a basic sandwich) and the picnic area is lovely with olive trees.
The park is 32km from central Athens. A taxi costs €35-40 each way. The bus from Syntagma Square is €5 but takes 1.5 hours.
Skip the safari train ride (€3). It's a 10-minute loop with limited views. Better to walk.
The delphinarium show is popular but controversial — some parents find the tank small. Check reviews before booking.
Visit the petting zoo in the morning when the animals are hungry and friendly. By afternoon they're napping.

A Real Parent's Story
The parrot that stole our daughter's sandwich
“A macaw flew over and snatched the cracker right from my 2-year-old's hand. She was stunned for a second, then burst out laughing. The zookeeper saw the whole thing and brought her a 'special bird certificate.' Best zoo moment ever.”

We almost skipped the zoo because of the distance from Athens. So glad we didn't. The free-flight bird area is unlike anything we've seen — parrots just flying around without cages. One landed near our picnic and boldly grabbed a cracker. My toddler was shocked, then delighted. A keeper came over, explained what kind of macaw it was, and gave her a coloring page of the bird. That kind of interaction you don't forget.
