Tips & Tricks from Real Parents

1

Go in spring (March-April) when the weather is perfect. Summer is brutally hot and the zoo lacks sufficient shade.

2

The aviary is the best section — local birds in a large netted enclosure. Kids can walk through and see eagles, hawks, and peacocks up close.

3

Bring your own food. The cafe is limited and expensive. There are shaded picnic benches near the playground.

4

The conservation center at the entrance has interactive exhibits about Jordan’s endangered species. Worth 15 minutes before the zoo walk.

5

Combine with a visit to the nearby Dead Sea Panorama complex (30-minute drive) for a stunning view and educational exhibit.

A Real Parent's Story

We saw a hyena laugh and my son tried to imitate it for days

The hyena made its signature laughing call and my 3-year-old tried to copy it. He sounded like a wheezing toy but kept at it for 10 minutes. The hyena seemed entertained too.

Amman Zoo gets mixed reviews and honestly, the infrastructure could use more investment. But my son had a blast. The aviary is genuinely good, and the playground kept him happy for another hour. The animals look well-fed if not in luxury enclosures. For a cheap Friday morning outing, it does the job.
