The Ultimate 3-Week Asian Family Adventure

Four of Asia's most incredible family destinations in one trip. It sounds ambitious — maybe even crazy — but I've done this exact route with my 6-year-old and 9-year-old, and here's the truth: it works beautifully if you pace it right.

This itinerary is designed for maximum variety with minimum stress. You get Bali's beaches and culture, Singapore's futuristic efficiency, Bangkok's energy and food, and Hong Kong's skyline and Disney magic — all in 21 days that flow naturally from one destination to the next.

Let me show you exactly how.

Overview: The Route and Why This Order Works

StopNightsVibeWhy This Order
Bali7Beach, culture, slow paceStart with decompression after long-haul flight
Singapore4City, technology, gardensQuick flight from Bali, easy transition
Bangkok5Temples, street food, energyDirect flight, big city energy, affordable luxury
Hong Kong5Skyline, Disney, harborFinish strong with Disney magic (short flight home)

Total: 21 days / 20 nights. Each leg is a short regional flight under 3 hours — easy on kids.

Part 1: Bali (7 Nights) — Beaches, Temples and Family Bonding

Bali is the perfect entry point. After a long flight, you need decompression, not a checklist.

Where to Stay

Option A: Seminyak (Recommended) — Best beaches for swimming, walkable cafes, excellent restaurants. Book a private villa with pool. Browse family-friendly Seminyak villas on Booking.com

Option B: Nusa Dua — Calmer, resort-focused, gated beaches. Great for toddlers.

Option C: Split Stay — 3 nights Ubud + 4 nights Seminyak for maximum variety.

Day-by-Day Bali Plan

Day 1: Arrive and Crash — Land in Bali (PM arrival). Check into villa or hotel. Pool time, early dinner at nearby warung, bed by 8 PM. Don't plan anything.

Day 2: Beach Day — Seminyak Beach or Double Six Beach. Rent boogie boards ($3). Lunch at beachfront cafe. Afternoon nap. Sunset at La Plancha (bean bags on the sand, kids love the colors).

Day 3: Ubud Day Trip — Hire a private driver ($40-50 for the day). Start at Ubud Monkey Forest (arrive at 8:30 AM before crowds). Then Tegalalang Rice Terraces — skip the overpriced swings, walk the paddies. Lunch at Melting Wok Warung (crepes, pasta, nasi goreng — everyone's happy). Afternoon at Tegenungan Waterfall (easy walk, safe swimming for older kids).

Day 4: Waterbom Bali — Full day at Asia's best water park. Book online for 10% discount. Arrive 9 AM, leave 3 PM when it crowds. Kids will be asleep by 7 PM.

Day 5: Culture and Beach — Morning at Bali Bird Park (2-3 hours, kids love feeding lorikeets). Afternoon back at the beach. Evening cooking class — many places teach kids to make satay and nasi goreng.

Day 6: Uluwatu Day Trip — Southern Bali's cliffs and temples. Visit Uluwatu Temple (watch for monkeys — secure everything). Padang Padang Beach for swimming. Sunset at Single Fin (kid-friendly until 6 PM).

Day 7: Relax and Pack — Morning pool, last-minute souvenir shopping at Seminyak Market, afternoon rest. Early dinner. Pack for Singapore tomorrow.

Part 2: Singapore (4 Nights) — Futuristic Fun and Food Paradise

A 2.5-hour flight from Bali brings you to a completely different world. Singapore is clean, efficient, and built for families.

Where to stay: Marina Bay area (for convenience) or Sentosa (for fun). Hotel Indigo Katong or Shangri-La Singapore (incredible kids' club). Find Singapore family hotels

Day 8: Arrive and Gardens by the Bay — Morning flight from Bali, arrive by noon. Lunch at Lau Pa Sat hawker centre. Afternoon at Gardens by the Bay — don't miss the Cloud Forest Dome. OCBC Skyway for views. Evening light show (free at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM).

Day 9: Sentosa Island — Universal Studios Singapore (compact, manageable). Kids 4-7 love Far Far Away Castle. Older kids hit the rollercoasters. Afternoon at S.E.A. Aquarium. Evening at Siloso Beach.

Day 10: Zoo, River and Night Safari — Singapore Zoo at 8:30 AM opening. Breakfast with orangutans (book ahead). Splash Park for cooling off. Evening: Night Safari — kids ride the tram and see nocturnal animals. Book combo deals online.

Day 11: City and Hawker Food Tour — Morning at Marina Bay Sands SkyPark. Walk through Chinatown and Little India. Lunch at Maxwell Food Centre — Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice. Evening river cruise along the Singapore River.

Part 3: Bangkok (5 Nights) — Energy, Temples and Street Food

Another quick 2.5-hour flight. Bangkok hits differently after Singapore — chaotic, loud, exhilarating. Kids pick up on the energy.

Where to stay: Sukhumvit area (convenient, near SkyTrain). JW Marriott Bangkok or Centre Point Sukhumvit 10 (serviced apartments with kitchens). Browse Bangkok family hotels

Day 12: Arrive and Evening Markets — Land around noon. Rest. Late afternoon: Asiatique Night Market — riverside market with rides (ferris wheel, carousel), plenty of food. Early bedtime.

Day 13: Temples and Tuk Tuks — Start early! 7:30 AM departure. Visit Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha) before heat builds. Skip Grand Palace with young kids (too hot, too crowded). Instead take a longtail boat on the canals — kids love the speed. Evening: walk through Khao San Road for 20 minutes of chaos (kids find it hilarious).

Day 14: Ayutthaya Day Trip — 1.5-hour drive to ancient capital. Hire private driver ($50-60). Temple ruins are incredible — kids can run in open spaces. Ethical elephant sanctuary near Ayutthaya. Back by 5 PM.

Day 15: Kid-Friendly Bangkok — Morning at Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World (massive aquarium, glass tunnels). Afternoon at KidZania Bangkok (kids 4-14 role-play 80+ professions for 4-5 hours — parents get a break). Evening at Above Eleven (rooftop dinner that welcomes kids).

Day 16: Markets and Relax — Morning at Chatuchak Weekend Market (if weekend, otherwise any local market). Let each kid pick one toy. Afternoon by the pool. Evening Bangkok street food tour — book through Klook ($25/person, 8 stops, kids eat free).

Part 4: Hong Kong (5 Nights) — Skyline, Disney and Harbor Magic

Final stretch! A 3-hour flight from Bangkok. Hong Kong ends the trip with a bang.

Where to stay: Tsim Sha Tsui (harbor views, central) or Tsuen Wan (near Disney, cheaper). Kowloon Shangri-La or Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. Browse Hong Kong family hotels

Day 17: Arrive and Harbor — Arrive afternoon. Walk Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade (best skyline view). Star Ferry across the harbor ($0.50/person — cheapest thrill ever). Symphony of Lights at 8 PM. Dinner at Tim Ho Wan (Michelin star dim sum for $5/person).

Day 18: Hong Kong Disneyland — Full day. Tips: arrive at 10 AM opening. Use Disney app for ride wait times. Don't miss: Mystic Manor (best dark ride), Hyperspace Mountain (Star Wars coaster), It's a Small World (classic for younger kids). Buy meal deal ($45/adult, $25/child — includes lunch and dinner). Stay for fireworks at 8 PM.

Day 19: The Peak or Ocean Park — Option A: Victoria Peak tram by 9 AM (avoid queues). Sky Terrace views. Peak Circle Walk (easy, 30 min, stunning). Option B: Ocean Park — pandas, dolphins, thrill rides, aquarium. Book online for discounts.

Day 20: Lantau Island and Big Buddha — Ngong Ping 360 cable car (25-min ride over water and mountains — kids mesmerized). Visit Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. Try vegetarian lunch at the monastery. Afternoon at Tai O fishing village — stilt houses, boat rides for pink dolphins.

Day 21: Last Day and Departure — Morning swim at hotel pool. Last-minute souvenirs at Temple Street Market. Late dim sum lunch. Head to airport by 5 PM. Hong Kong airport has a nap room, playground, and IMAX theater.

Real Parent Tips for Multi-City Travel

  1. Don't change hotels every night. Minimum 3-4 nights per city. Moving every 2 nights is exhausting for everyone.
  2. Book morning flights between cities. Kids are fresher, and you get afternoon pool time at the new hotel.
  3. One suitcase per person. Do not overpack. Asia has cheap laundry everywhere. You will thank me on day 14.
  4. Have a "rest day" every 5 days. Our schedule builds them in naturally (Day 7 Bali, Day 11 Singapore), but add more if your kids need it.
  5. Show your kids the next city on a map. Let them feel the journey. My 6-year-old loved tracking our route on a paper map we brought from home.
  6. Pack a familiar comfort item. A stuffed animal, a blanket, or a tablet loaded with their favorite shows. When the 8th temple in a week feels boring, Paw Patrol saves the day.
  7. Travel insurance is non-negotiable. Multi-city means multiple chances for lost bags, flight delays, or tummy troubles. Get comprehensive coverage.

Is This Trip Right for Your Family?

This itinerary works best for families with children aged 4-12. Under 4? Consider dropping one city (skip Hong Kong, add 5 more nights to Bali). Over 12? Reverse the order and add more adventure activities.

The bottom line: This is the most efficient, kid-tested route through four of Asia's best family destinations. It requires some planning but delivers unforgettable variety. Every city feels completely different — beaches, gardens, temples, and skyscrapers — all connected by short flights. Your kids will remember this trip forever.
